News item is a text which informs readers about events of the day. The events are considered newsworthy or important.

Generic Structure :

Newsworthy Event

Ø It is about the
country/city/place where the
events took place. Then, the information about
who, when and the actual location of the events are presented.
Ø Recounts the event
in a summary form.

Background Events
The thing that caused the event to event or why did the event
or the news happen. This part is the body of the news item which tells in
chronological order the events that took place. There may be general comments
on the events and quotes from people involved in the events.

Where the journalist or reporter the news get
from.

The event start to end. Comments from the public,
like the witnesses, the police or the experts are usually included.

Landslide in Bukit Tinggi
Two people died while four others were wounded in a
landslide at a yard behind a house near Teleng market in Bukit Tinggi, West Sumatra on Tuesday.
Killed were 3-year-old Yusuf, who was the son of a
kiosk owner at the market, Bujang, and 22-year-old Meli, who was a visitor to
the market. The injured were rushed to the Achmad Muchtar and Yarsi hospitals.
Bukit Tinggi Deputy Mayor Ismet Amziz said Tuesday it was
suspected that recent heavy rainfall had caused the landslide.
